| Miki-city is known as the oldest city of metalic
materials in Japan. It has its beginning 1500 years ago. In
middle of the 5th century, a group of Yamato-smith who had worshipped
Amenomahitotu-no-mikoto as a god and a group of Korea-smith
who was brought from mt.Mibu by an exile WANG ZHI HUI taught
each other new skills. Korean smiths with high technique settled
and began to found in Miki. Thereafter, the more they were skilled,
the more good carpenters were grown up. Those local carpenters
were called Hihara-daiku, who had taken part in making national
treasure buildings since Nara and Heian era. In Sengoku era
swords were so actively made that Miki prospered as a castle
town on the Cyugoku Road. In Edo era local carpenters went to
Kyoto, Osaka, Tanba and Tajima to work during the leisure season
for farmers. Their tools got the credit there. So they went
into business of metallic materials. In this way they have had
a large trade all over Japan. |
